Empowered Youth Program is an academic enrichment program for students in Clarke and surrounding Georgia counties.
History:
Gentlemen on the Move was first developed in North Carolina by Dr. Deryl Bailey, currently a professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services at the University of Georgia. Initially this program served African American adolescent males in grades 9 through 12. The program has since expanded (Empowered Youth Programs) to include male and female students in grades K-12. The program focuses on providing developmental and comprehensive support for students along with individual and group counseling. In addition to the Saturday Academy, intensive weekend-long (overnight) Exam Lock-Ins for high school participants, are held prior to final semester exams, twice a year.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide equity and access to rigor for students from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.. We believe that every student should have post-secondary education as an option.
